FIRE PREVENTION
For the purpose of this program fuel management is defined as the process of changing forest fuels to reduce aggressive fire behaviour. This may include treatments such as thinning, spacing and pruning trees, and removal of needles and woody debris on the forest floor. This process will reduce fuel load in the forest and reduce the potential for devastating wildfires.
Fuel management initiatives will help reduce the possibility of devastating wildfire losses such as those experienced in the summer of 2003. This program is funded by the Ministry of Forests and Range, and administered by the Union of BC Municipalities. A partnership with First Nations Emergency Services Society has been formed to provide program delivery to First Nations communities.
